Make Your Own…..
Today’s post is kind of a fun one for me. I got to use a product that I have been wanting for years, but never had the chance to buy. I was able to make cashew milk using a nut milk bag. In the past I had only ever used thin rags to make nut milk, and I can’t lie, it was a messy ordeal. That is probably why I only made it once or twice, and it has been almost two years since I have even attempted making it again. I have to say using this bag, from Ellie’s Best, made my milk creating experience much more pleasant. Don’t get me wrong, it can still get messy, but it is so much faster, and efficient.
My kids, and husband, love chocolate cashew milk. And let’s be honest, it can get expensive at $4.00 for a half gallon, then you must be super careful about the ingredients that you are getting. I buy a reputable brand that doesn’t put any crazy fillers, or carrageenan, in their milk, but still if we can keep the ingredients under five, and add our own goodies like reduced sugar, added fiber, and even probiotics, you have a serious win. Aside from the hour that I let the cashews soak, the milk making process only took about fifteen minutes. About the same amount of time it would take you to go into the store, grab a half gallon of chocolate cashew milk, avoid buying any extras on the way to the register, and check out.
Let me walk you through how simple this is…..
Soak the cashews in hot water for an hour. (You can soak over night if you need to)
Drain the cashews and throw them in the blender with 3 cups of cold water. Blend on HIGH.
Pour your pulverized nuts and water into a nut milk bag over a big bowl, or 4 cup measuring cup. SQUEEZE!
Save the nut remnants, it is almost like cheese now, we will figure out a recipe to use those in.
Rinse the blender, pour the cashew milk back in, add unsweetened cocoa powder, vanilla, and Sugar 2.0 +Probiotics and blend

Homemade Chocolate Cashew Milk

1 cup unsalted raw cashews
3 cup cold water
¼ cup Sugar 2.0 +Probiotics
2 teaspoons vanilla flavoring
3 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
If you like to get things done quickly like I do you can cover your cashews in hot water (I used hot from the tap) and let them sit for an hour. (You can also put them in cold water and allow them to sit overnight in the fridge.)
Once they done soaking pour off the water and dump them in your blender along with 3 cups of cold water.
Blend on high for a few minutes until the cashews are fully processed.
Place your nut milk bag over a big bowl, or a 4-cup measuring cup, and pour your nut milk and pulp into the bag
Gently squeeze, some will squirt out the sides if you if you squeeze to fast
Once the milk is all squeezed out you will be left with cashew pulp the texture of soft cheese. (Save it!)
Give your blender a quick rinse, pour your cashew milk back in and add your Sugar 2.0 +Probiotics, vanilla flavoring, and unsweetened cocoa powder
Blend for 1-2 minutes until combined
Store in the refrigerator in a covered container for 5-7 days. (I used a large water bottle)
