Winter is Here…………….
I think winter is officially here! Here in Kentucky the rains have arrived, and appear to be here for a while. I’m sure after this bout of rain we will be in for a hard freeze like last year. In other parts of the country snow has already blanketed the ground leaving little doubt that January is only a few days away. I decided to pull together my 5 favorite comfort food recipes to help keep everyone warm. If you have to stay in, or even worse if you have to go out, you need some tummy warming goodness to look forward to at lunch, or dinner, time.
These recipes are super easy, hearty, figure friendly, and fairly inexpensive. The best part is you probably already have most of the ingredients in your fridge and pantry. Help beat the winter chill with one of these all-time comfort foods, sit back, relax, and enjoy!
What is your favorite comfort food?
I am a cream of mushroom soup lover from way back, but making it at home beats the canned stuff any day! You can skip the preservatives, and the high price, for what little indulgence you get out of a can. This recipe is smooth, creamy, and is loaded with nice big pieces of baby bella mushrooms!
This soup is great if you have a cold, or just want a nice steamy bowl of soup. Don’t let the name fool you. While it is cheap to make, it doesn’t skimp on flavor or heartiness!
These stuffed peppers are amazing. They are a new twist on an old favorite… no meat! I know, that may sound like blasphemy, but you don’t even miss it. This recipe just warms you to the core!
A new take on an old favorite, this pie is packed with veggies and ground beef instead of lamb. The warm gravy, along with the potatoes, is an all-star hit!
Nothing says love to your tummy like chicken pot pie. I don’t like fussing with the soggy bottom crust, or the calories, so I tuck all of these warm, yummy ingredients under a blanket of single layer flaky crust and you won’t ever miss the bottom.
